More About Me...

I'm Melissa, your Mindless Mommy. I started this blog in 2007 to discuss my journey as a mom of two children on the autism spectrum.

Another Tidbit...

I am also a freelance writer and a college student. In my 30s I discovered what I wanted to be when I gew up and I'm studying to be an SLP.

Where’s Daddy?

Today was a sleep-in day for me.  My husband got up with the kids and let me get some rest.  When I woke up the kids were in the playroom so he hopped in bed and we chatted for a bit.  Then he reached over and gave me a hug - at that time my daughter (3.5 years) walked into the room and said “Where daddy go?”  We giggled and I covered his head up with the blanket and told him to stay there.  I replied to my daughter, “I don’t know, where is he?”  She paused for a minute and said “maybe he gone.”  Then she went on to show me the waffle she was eating; evidently she stashed her breakfast for later use as it was room temperature and kind of crunchy.

So I told her “come in bed and give me a hug”.  Mind you there is this big lump next to me under the blankets; that lump being my husband.  Ava crawls up into the bed and as she nears the top of the bed she says “hey, daddy’s phone!” while she is leaning on the lump.  At this point my husband started to snicker so I talked a little louder.  I told her “Yes that’s daddy’s phone, where’s my hug?” to which she quickly leaned all the way onto the lump and gave me my hug.  After the hug she quickly progressed back down the bed saying she was going to “find daddy.”  I uncovered daddy’s head and she had this look of astonishment on her face as she said “daddy hiding under the blanket.”  Yes sweetie, that lump you leaned on was daddy.  She then gave him a big ole hug.

I really thought she’d have figured out that the lump was not me and that it was daddy but she was completely oblivious.  It was worth a few giggles on our part and it ended up being a story that I wanted to share.  Happy Thursday!
