Denis Leary is, and has always been, an ass in my book. He’s not a funny ass – he’s just an ass. In his new book, he is evidently trying to speed up his rise to the throne as the King of Asses.
“There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can’t compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don’t give a what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you – yer kid is NOT autistic. He’s just stupid. Or lazy. Or both.”
Okay so my autistic son with a gifted IQ is stupid? My autistic son who’s lowest score on his 1st quarter report card was a 94% is stupid? My autistic son who hasn’t missed a spelling word since spelling tests started over a year ago is stupid? No Mr. Leary – your negative ass is stupid.

That’s right, what you said! My son with ASD and ADHD does not cause trouble at school and makes straight A’s. WE know it’s not about excusing misbehavior. WE also know that Leary lives in a weird world where lazy and inattentive parents will go to all the trouble of keeping doctor and therapist appointments and paying their bills and filling prescriptions and buying dietary supplements and special toys JUST TO HAVE AN EXCUSE! (?!?)

I read about Dennis Leary last week and couldn’t figure out if he was just a moron or what his story was. I’m not familiar with him and tend to confuse him with Dennis Hopper.

AMEN! I read about this and it angered me so much….He has no idea what it is like to be the parent of a special needs kid. Thank goodness, though, because ie heaven forbid he had had an autistic child, think how horrible that kid’s life would have been. I can just imagine him hurling insults at his poor kid.
My son has high-functioning autism and I had my own Dennis Milleresque rant when I read this quote too.
