Alex’s Plans for the New Year

by Melissa on January 5, 2009

Today was Alexander’s first day of school after the Winter Break. He loves school but was a bit nervous about the change in routine – he told me “you know, mom, I don’t like change.” So true sweetie, so very true.

His reading homework assignment tonight was a Happy New Year question sheet. Here’s his plans for the new year. The questions are in bold and his answers are in italics.

What do you hope happens during this new year?
I hope I learn lots of math. (My mom will be proud, she’s a math teacher.)

What was the best thing that happened to you last year?
Sleeping in a bunk bed at Disneyland. (Admittedly, that was very cool.)

What is one thing you can do at school to make this new year even better?
Accomplish everything I have to do. (He was referring to his student council responsibilities and yes he did write accomplish, even spelled it right.)

What is one thing you can do at home to make this new year better?
Set my goals. (He’s thinking about them now.)

What is one thing you can do for yourself to make this new year better?
Get more weight. (This one breaks my heart, he is obviously more emotionally affected by his weight gain challenges than I thought.)

Here’s wishing you and years a wonderful 2009!

Oh such good goals! I meant to post a comment the other day on the weight gain. It sounds like my Xander is *exactly* the same size as your’s. If it makes you feel any better at all, he is 7, and he eats like a horse. No weight gain…just a smoking high metabolism from non-stop action.I don’t know if your son is like mine, but mine is go, go, go all of the time. It may take the major growing at 12-14 and puberty for all of it to slow a bit. (I’m hoping!)
