My son recently visited his neurologist. It was the same day of his last day of school and prior to picking him up, Alexander had received an “accelerated reading” (AR) award. His class read more than 800,000 words and Alexander read more than 300,000 of those words. I mentioned this to the neurologist (just to make Alexander feel more comfortable) and so the neurologist asked Alexander which of those 300,000+ words was his favorite.
I full expected Alexander to say “and” or “the” or one of the other high frequency words. Nope, he said “bioluminescence”. The neurologist kind of looked at me out of the corner of his eyes and said “Bioluminescence, huh? Well, that’s a good word.”
